It is the opportunity to learn and to develop through countless 'readings' of Jeremy's work that is key. I read it in not dissimilar way to the way I would read a work by Hogarth, for instance.needmoreparachuteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13236956585235959295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5265813806993497215.post-10765322537683798222010-03-06T13:44:59.794-08:002010-03-06T13:44:59.794-08:00Couldn't agree more Julie, but it remains of n...Couldn't agree more Julie, but it remains of necessity a conundrum, and this doesn't make it any less a weakness. Both a strength and weakness then! I often think great art pushes things close to the point of failure. Again how this journey is communicated is vital - the viewer must feel involved, as you do here.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06245766911631684221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5265813806993497215.post-5118338827609444022010-03-06T13:20:16.272-08:002010-03-06T13:20:16.272-08:00I'm very traditional - and not very articulate...I'm very traditional - and not very articulate.. I keep in mind very old fashioned ideas.. For me, 'perspective' is still what drives the most interesting work.. At it's most 'simplistic', It is Jeremy's ability to spin an idea around - like the Tarkovsky coin, that he mentions, that makes his work so fascinating. I just find it very aesthetic, very elegant, very demanding, but rewarding. There may be 'failures' in communication, but that isn't the whole point, it's the journey that matters; where you end up, how you feel. As a visual and literary artist, I think his work is quite unique.needmoreparachuteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13236956585235959295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5265813806993497215.post-44082101432209814452010-03-06T12:33:32.255-08:002010-03-06T12:33:32.255-08:00Thanks Julie. I guess if Jeremy regards an 'inevitable failing of communication' as inevitable - perhaps even for his show, desirable - then it is a strength.John Hurrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07411877334096071312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5265813806993497215.post-61406667563055415922010-03-06T06:33:03.777-08:002010-03-06T06:33:03.777-08:00Ok.. my name is Julie McCabeOk.. my name is Julie McCabeneedmoreparachuteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13236956585235959295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5265813806993497215.post-23216801336883507962010-03-05T11:03:55.376-08:002010-03-05T11:03:55.376-08:00Please give us your name, Da Vinci enthusiast. Please give us your name, Da Vinci enthusiast.John Hurrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07411877334096071312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5265813806993497215.post-42177633000360326992010-03-05T07:03:40.605-08:002010-03-05T07:03:40.605-08:00"The text read on entering the exhibition is ..."The text read on entering the exhibition is also used in the blog, and overlays the other images in the show. Yet from this I find it impossible to weave any kind of textual structure or narrative together. This is the work's weakness, yet isn't exactly surprising given Narvik's Complaint is about working towards impossibilities and the inevitable failing of communication across time."<br /><br />Leonardo Da Vinci says something like.."The arch is nothing else than a force originated by two weaknesses, for the arch in buildings is composed of two segments of a circle, each of which being very weak in itself tends to fall; but as each opposes this tendency in the other, the two weaknesses combine to form one strength."
