Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to eyeCONTACT, a forum built to encourage art reviews and critical discussion about the visual culture of Aotearoa New Zealand. I'm John Hurrell its editor, a New Zealand writer, artist and curator. While Creative New Zealand and other supporters are generously paying me and other contributors to review exhibitions over the following year, all expressed opinions are entirely our own.

Readers, I'm about to go down to Christchurch for four days to check out some shows.

In the meantime, remember that there are over 500 reviews on this site. If you type in the artist's name or that of their Auckland dealer in the 'search' bar seen in the top lefthand corner above, you should be able to find what you want.

I hope you'll be including Christchurch Art Gallery on your trip: three massive shows on at the moment: Seraphine Pick; Ronnie van Hout; and et al. Upstairs galleries closed while we gear up for Brought to Light: redesign of the collection galleries. See behind the scenes at the Brought to Light blog: http://broughttolight.wordpress.com/
